World's oldest steam train still in regular service, world record in Suceava County, Romania

Moldovița, Suceava County, Romnia--The "Huţulca" steam locomotive is the attraction for tourists who stop by the Suceava town of Moldoviţa; powered by the oldest operating locomotive in the world, made in 1917, the train sets the world record for being the World's oldest steam train still in regular service, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"A steam train, or steam locomotive, is a train powered by a steam engine. It uses the force of expanding steam, generated by burning fuel to heat water, to propel the wheels and move the train. Steam trains were once the dominant form of railway transport but have largely been replaced by diesel and electric locomotives due to their lower efficiency and higher maintenance requirements." (AI)
"Steam locomotives have a boiler that heats water, turning it into high-pressure steam. This steam is then directed to pistons, which move back and forth, turning a crankshaft and ultimately the train's wheels.
"Some notable examples include the Mocanita in Romania, the Redwood Forest Steam Train at Roaring Camp Railroads in California, and the Great Central Railway in the UK."

"A Mocăniță (Romanian pronunciation: [mokəˈnit͡sə]) is a narrow-gauge railway in Romania, most notably in Maramureș, Transylvania, and Bukovina. Archetypically, they are situated in mountainous areas and the locomotives operating on them (which themselves can also be referred to as mocănițăs) are steam-powered.
"These railways were built for cargo and passenger services – some in the era of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, before 1918 – but fell into disrepair over the years. Some are now being rehabilitated for the purposes of tourism.
"The word mocăniță is a term of endearment, derived from the Romanian word mocan, meaning shepherd or one who lives in the mountains, and suffixed as feminine and diminutive in keeping with the tradition of naming conveyances and indicating small size. It's also been suggested that it means "coffee machine", as one of the little locomotives is reminiscent of one of these in action." (Wikipedia)

"The "Huţulca" steam locomotive is the attraction for tourists who stop by the Suceava town of Moldoviţa, located in the heart of Obcinia Mari and Feredeului. The "Huţulca" steam locomotive is the attraction for tourists who stop by the Suceava town of Moldoviţa," The Light Newspaper reports.
"This railway line has existed since 1888, it was built by a sawmill owner from Munich. For over a century, steam locomotives have been running on it, transporting timber and logs. The initial route was almost 100 km. Starting in 2005, an Austrian investor has been gradually rebuilding this forestry line, which currently reaches a length of 10.5 km.
"Calmly and patiently, Ion Popescu answers the questions of the curious, assuring them that they have ridden in "the oldest operating locomotive in the world, made in 1917", poses for photos like a star, alongside his colleagues, and takes the children into the Krauss' cabin with the same love with which he takes his only grandson, Rareş Ionuţ, who at 7 years old knows how to drive a mocăniţa. When he talks about Rareş, the blue of his eyes becomes sparkling, like coal sprinkled with water, waiting to be swallowed by the flames near the locomotive's firebox, on the way back."

"What I want to say, and it's important, is that the vendors who were waiting for us at the end of the tour were super, super nice. They were jovial, well-prepared and delighted to see us,"the Adventures in Romania reports.
"Even though we're basically talking about trade, their warm attitude seemed absolutely welcome to me. I have all the respect and appreciation for them. They welcomed us very well. It's even more fun to visit areas like this.
"When we left there, they left their tables and other activities and came to greet us. They waved and wished us well. It seemed very sensible to me. People make you feel important. It's nice..."

"In the vibrant and green heart of Bucovina, where nature shows its untouched splendor and history comes alive at every step, the Mocănița Huțulca makes its way through breathtaking landscapes. As a witness to a golden age, this historic locomotive carries with it untold stories, precious memories and the unparalleled charm of bygone times," the
official website says.
"The narrow gauge railway, one of the last of its kind still operational in Europe, is not just a simple means of transport. It is a gateway to a fascinating world, where every kilometer traveled reveals corners of wild nature, dense forests and gentle hills that compose the unique picture of Bucovina. This journey is not only picturesque, but profound and moving, an authentic experience that connects you with the roots of local history and traditions."

"The Moldovita railway began operating in 1888 to transport wood from the forest. After a period of abandonment of the route, the small train operates thanks to the investment of Austrian businessman Georg Hocevar, administrator of SC Calea Ferată Îngustă SRL Brad, who was the one who put Mocăniţa back into operation in 2005 and developed it, which has now become one of the biggest tourist attractions in the Bucovina mountains," the
EuAly.com reports.
"Among the places to visit and monasteries in Bucovina, a ride on Mocanita is an opportunity to see village life, the fairy-tale landscapes and the peace here. The train runs all year round. Even in winter the landscapes are beautiful but you have to be dressed warmly because the stove in the carriage may not work."
